Marlene Lages and Rui Jorge participated at the 27th Portuguese Congress on Obesity

The 27th Portuguese Congress on Obesity, organized by the Portuguese Society for the Study of Obesity, took place from 10 to 11 November, in Porto, at Hotel Crowne Plaza. ciTechCare was represented by Rui Jorge, researcher at this unit and lecturer at Coimbra Health School and Marlene Lages, PhD fellow, through the presentation of their posters.

At this congress, based on the subject ‘Obesity: lose weight, get healthy’ therapeutic strategies for the treatment of obesity were discussed, including lifestyle interventions and pharmacological and surgical therapies.

The poster “Analysis of the labeling of dietary supplements for weight loss and possible impact on the health of consumers”, conducted by Rui Jorge, concluded that these dietary supplements do not present robustness in their effectiveness as aids in the treatment of obesity, and can even have potential risks for those who consume them.

Marlene Lages was responsible for displaying the poster “Determination of motivation in adherence to time-restricted eating protocols” that aimed to link the life habits with the availability of adherence to time-restricted eating protocols and to determine the predictors of adherence to this type of protocol. According to the results, the study concluded that a large percentage of participants have a eating window greater than 12 hours, and it was found that the older the participants, the lower their availability to adhere to these protocols. Also, among the predictors of adherence to this type of protocol are the start and end of work and body weight management.
