Predictive value of carotid bodies overactivation for metabolic diseases

A group of researchers from ciTechCare recently published the article “CBmeter study: protocol for assessing the predictive value of peripheral chemoreceptor overactivation for metabolic diseases” in the journal BMJ Open.
The article describes the clinical protocol currently being used in the CBmeter study. This study aims to contribute to the clarification of the role of carotid bodies in the aetiology of metabolic diseases and guide the development of new therapeutic approaches for early intervention in metabolic diseases.
Non-invasive assessment of carotid bodies activity is performed by measuring ventilatory, cardiac and metabolic responses to two challenge tests, which may have a predictive value for early diagnosis of metabolic diseases.
