The presence of asbestos in some of the public infrastructure is a topic that has been discussed and deserves special attention, since it is a carcinogen capable of potentiating cancer. Asbestos is known as a human carcinogen, even at very low doses, and is currently considered as the leading cause of cancer associated with occupational exposure in industrialized countries.

Sometimes this material is located in buildings or in infrastructure in places whose presence is unknown. In addition, health effects can persist for years and years, even after being exposed to this agent.

On this subject, Cátia Santos, a researcher at CITechCare, warns of the need to establish actions together with the scientific and social community to end this issue of public health.
