ciTechCare promoted the session “Conversations about obesity”, motivated by the Portuguese Society of Diabetology (SPD), on November 14, which took place in the Manuel Artur Santos Gallery, in Santana Market, with the support of the Municipality of Leiria.
Nuno Vicente, endocrinologist and head of the obesity consultation of the Endocrinology Service of ULS-RL, Carlos Oliveira, President of ADEXO – Portuguese Association of People living with Obesity, Rogério Salvador, Coordinator of the Master’s Degree in Exercise Prescription and Health Promotion at ESECS – Politécnico de Leiria and researcher at CIEQV – The Life Quality Research Centre and Maria Guarino, Coordinator of ciTechCare, constituted the panel of the session.
The need to establish new policies that support the payment of medication used for obesity and diabetes, with wide benefits in the quality of life of users or the importance of promoting physical exercise in this population were some of the topics addressed. Nuno Vicente, endocrinologist, also highlighted the work carried out in this area at the Leiria Hospital Center through an Endocrinology Day Hospital with a team also composed by a nutritionist and a physiotherapist, with a significant pedagogical role.
This initiative aimed to bring together researchers, students, clinicians and patients over an hour and a half in a free session to address diabetes in a clear and holistic way, allowing a sharing of knowledge and experiences around this topic.
