ciTechCare attended the 22nd Portuguese Diabetes Congress

The Algarve Congress Center hosted the 22nd Portuguese Diabetes Congress on March 5th and 6th. ciTechCare was represented by its coordinator, Professor Maria Guarino, and research fellows Marlene Lages and Neuza Barros, where two scientific posters were presented.

The poster entitled “Phase angle as a marker of muscle quality and function in patients with type 2 diabetes, with and without COPD,” authored by Maria Guarino, Marlene Lages, Neuza Barros, Sofia Flora, Nádia Hipólito, Sara Pimenta, Joana Cruz, and Maria Colucci (Federal University of São Carlos), revealed that the phase angle may constitute a promising non-invasive marker of muscle quality and function in type 2 diabetes patients, regardless of the coexistence of COPD.

Additionally, the poster “Association between chronotype and nutritional lipid intake in women,” authored by Marlene Lages, Sara Carmo-Silva (ESTeSCoimbra), Renata Barros (FCNAUP), and Maria Guarino, was also presented. The study showed that, in women, later chronotypes were associated with a higher percentage of energy derived from lipids, with a similar trend for saturated fatty acids. This reinforces the relevance of chronotypes in characterizing dietary patterns with potential cardiometabolic impact.

According to the research team, “participation in this congress reinforces the relevance of the research developed by ciTechCare in the fields of diabetes and nutrition, promoting the dissemination of scientific knowledge and the strengthening of collaborations, aiming to improve clinical practice and population health.”
