Being active with a chronic respiratory disease

Sofia Flora, researcher at ciTechCare and PhD student at the Faculty of Human Motricity, published an article on July 14 in Diário de Leiria on the importance of physical activity in the health and quality of life of people with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD), which highlights the work that has been developed at ciTechCare in this area, within the OnTRACK project and her PhD project (both funded by the Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia, FCT Ref. POCI-01-0145-FEDER-028446 and 2020.06954.BD).
Sofia emphasizes “Particularly in people with COPD, their health condition, exercise tolerance and the appropriateness of the type of physical activity are important aspects to consider when developing a tailored physical activity intervention plan. Our work in the next few years aims to develop a mobile smartphone application (app) for personalizing physical activity during and after pulmonary rehabilitation programs, based on each person’s preferences and contexts, and to understand if this personalized solution will help patients to be physically
active over time.”
