Bruno Carreira, ciTechCare investigator, leads one of the 10 pilot-projects promoted by DGS to create a physical exercise medical appointment in primary healthcare centers

Bruno Carreira, MD, PhD, general practitioner at the Santiago Primary Care Unit in Leiria, ciTechCare researcher and Professor at School of Health Sciences of Polytechnic, is the principal investigator of a pilot project of the Directorate-General for Health that aims to analyze the benefits of targeted physical exercise and its impact on the quality of life of the users, as well as evaluating the cost-benefit of applying this measure compared to the costs of medication and treatment.

On February 27, 2019, a cooperation protocol was signed between Polytechnic of Leiria, Santiago de Leiria Family Health Unit, Leiria City Hall, Pinhal Litoral Health Centers Group, and Juventude Vidigalense to formalize the implementation of a structured and multidisciplinary consultation of physical activity in primary health care aimed to users with type 2 diabetes and depression (18-70 years), led by Bruno Carreira. Pedro Morouço, professor at the School of Education and Social Sciences, will be the exercise physiologist in charge.
