It was marked on September 25, the World Lung Day, which aims to raise awareness of the world population for respiratory diseases – which, in Portugal, represent the third cause of death.

To highlight this day, Pedro Machado, PhD student at ciTechCare, made a presentation about the work he has been developing within his doctoral project – OncoEnergy: Effect of a preoperative exercise training program on quality of life after colorectal and lung cancer surgery.

Pedro Machado is the principal investigator of the OncoEnergy project, funded by FCT since 2020 and whose main objective is to assess the feasibility and effects of a pre-operative home exercise program on quality of life after lung cancer surgery.

Throughout his path as a PhD student at ciTechCare, Pedro Machado has dedicated his research to the potential effect of physical exercise on postoperative quality of life in patients with lung and colorectal cancer, winning several awards and distinctions in the area.
