ciTechCare research presented at CIMHealth
On March 13 and 14, Maria Guarino and Marlene Lages, researchers at ciTechCare, participated in the international scientific meeting organized by the Coimbra Health School (ESTeSC) – Coimbra International Meeting in Health Sciences and Technology (CIMHealth), with the aim of contributing to the promotion of research from the integrative perspective of the One Health approach, through the presentation of two scientific works as posters.
“Coexisting COPD and Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus: Exploring Muscle Mass and Protein Intake” was one of the posters presented, authored by Neuza Barros, Marlene Lages, Sara Pimenta, Nádia Hipólito, Sofia Flora, Joana Cruz, and Maria Pedro Guarino. The results suggest that individuals with type 2 diabetes and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) may have lower protein intake and reduced skeletal muscle mass, highlighting the cumulative effect of these two clinical conditions and emphasizing the need for further research in this area.
The poster “Associations between Macronutrient Intake and Clock Gene Expression in Adults: A Cross-Sectional Pilot Study” presented by Marlene Lages suggests an association between fat intake and the modulation of clock gene expression in blood samples, with variations observed throughout the day, reinforcing the need for future research on the influence of meal timing and composition on metabolic health. This poster is part of the Marlene Lages’ doctoral project, co-authored by Sara Carmo-Silva (ESTeSC), Renata Barros (FCNAUP), and Maria Pedro Guarino.
