Gaming as a new paradigm in healthy ageing – A science swing session

October is the Positive Ageing Month and, to mark the occasion, ciTechCare promoted a Science Swing session dedicated to boost healthy ageing through the use of serious games, as a therapeutic strategy in the area of monitoring, multidimensional intervention and health education. This session took place at the Health Innovation Hub of ciTechCare, on October 29th, at 10am.

The session was led by 3 researchers in the area of serious games. Marlene Rosa, researcher and founder of the project Agilidades, a SPIN-OFF of the Polytechnic of Leiria that aims to develop services and products supporting new paradigms of a dignified, happy and healthy ageing through gamification, presented the theme ‘Transforming care for the elderly – Training professionals to implement games’.

Under the theme ‘Personalize games as non-pharmacological interventions using the EEG’, Susana Lopes, PhD student at ciTechCare, dedicated her presentation to the use of non-pharmacological interventions in the personalization of the therapy of the person with dementia – an exploratory study with the NeuroAgil Programme.

The session also counted on the participation of Alexandre Cavaleiro, PhD student in physiotherapy that adressed the theme ‘The importance of games in the rehabilitation of gait and balance disorders’, based on an article published together with both speakers of the session.
