CV Synopsis
Marco Lemos (PhD) is an Associate Professor with Habilitation at the University of Leiria and Oeste and a principal researcher at MARE, focusing on stress physiology and biochemistry, as well as marine biotechnology and the sustainable use of marine resources to provide solutions for industry. He is Director of the Community Diagnostic Centre and former Director of the Covid-19 Diagnostic Centre at the University of Leiria and Oeste. He was Coordinator of the FCT R&D Units Marine and Environmental Sciences Centre (MARE-IPLeiria) and Marine Resources Research Group (GIRM), and Coordinator of the CETEMARES building (Marine Sciences R&D, Education, and Knowledge Dissemination Centre). He is on the Executive Board and Guidance Council of Campus do Mar, an international network of excellence, and was the national MARE Biotechnology line coordinator. He is the PI of several national and international projects, including other research centres and industry (>20M EUR), and supervises over 20 PhD and postdoc researchers. He has registered several international patents. He has published three books. He has also written and published twelve book chapters and is the author/co-author of over 200 communications in scientific congresses. He has over 150 ISI publications, which are included in several policy documents of organisations, including the European Commission, the Food and Agriculture Organisation of the United Nations, the International Union for Conservation of Nature, the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA), the World Health Organisation, and the Intergovernmental Science-Policy Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES).
