On May 13, 14 and 15, the largest international science communication festival brought science back to Leiria’s bars and to more than 500 cities in the world. CiTechCare joined this initiative, that emerged in 2012, whose aim is to disseminate science in an uncomplicated way, making it accessible to everyone, where bars are the stage for these informal conversations.
Andreia Antunes, researcher and PhD fellow at ciTechCare in regenerative medicine and current Director of Gynecology and Obstetrics Service at the Local Health Unit of the Region of Leiria, guided a session entitled ‘The power of platelets in the regeneration of female genital atrophy’, which took place on May 14, between 7pm and 9pm, at the Shisha Gold Lounge, in Leiria.
Also Marlene Rosa, researcher in neurosciences and founder of the Agilidades project, was invited to share her presentation ‘Beyond the robots: Teaching about old age in schools’, where she addressed the project Cortex School Bag, that intends to talk about dementia to children attending the 3rd and 4th years of school. This session took place at the Habitat bar, May 15, between 6:30 pm and 8:30 pm.
After the presentations, which lasted about 15 minutes, there was time for some interactive discussions with the audience.
Started in the UK in 2012, this festival arrived in Portugal in 2018. The 7th edition went through 12 Portuguese cities: Aveiro, Braga, Bragança, Coimbra, Guimarães, Horta, Leiria, Lisbon and Porto, joined this year by newcomers Almada, Castelo Branco and Faro. From Neuroscience, Astronomy and Biology, to Botany, Engineering or History, all areas of knowledge were the subject of Pint of Science.
