The coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2) pandemic, which led to the declaration of a state of emergency and calamity, entailed several public health measures, including the massification of COVID-19 diagnosis.
Aware of the limitations of the National Health Service (SNS) and existing laboratories in meeting the growing demand for tests, the Polytechnic University of Leiria sought to fulfil its mission in the region and the country by establishing a COVID-19 Diagnosis Centre at its Peniche facilities. This Centre will allow, during the DisCovEr+, to offer the health authorities and other actors the capacity of 81,000 Sars-Cov-2 detection tests, supported by molecular analysis protocols developed with alternative methods, adjusted and differentiated reactants and consumables from the actual laboratories, ensuring continuous testing with quality and security.
