Promote and empower for literacy in health in young people

The changes in recent years in the health of its population have improved significantly, however, young people require special attention regarding, the determinants of health-related lifestyle.

The scientific evidence in health promotion in schools, innovation and the need to refocus the action on the results implies the development of more appropriate interventions for young people.

In addition to empowering people and communities to act, it involves recognizing their skills and potential and facilitating their choices. Integrating a broad vision, it creates the project “Your PEL To Promote and Empower for Literacy in Health among young people” to help this generation achieve their full health potential. It focuses on a health approach throughout the life cycle, specifically a youth looking for a healthy future and has three specific areas: food, harmful consumption and sexuality.

The objectives are to develop an impact assessment tool for education programs for health developed in schools in food, harmful consumption, and sexuality at the 3rd cycle of basic education, as well as monitor the determinants of health and the effectiveness of strategies developed. It is a multi-region project aligned with the national smart specialization strategy, a partnership between the IPSantarém (ESSS and ESTG) IPLeiria ESSL and IPViseu ESSV, the school groups of Chamusca and the school groups of Golegã, Azinhaga and Pombalinho as beneficiary institutions. The ACES Lezíria – UCC Chamusca / Golegã participates while not an eligible institution. The mobilization of different complementarities of institutions such as research and development activities in education for health and development and validation instruments, which combine the technological part, justify the importance of their development. The participation of educational and healthcare institutions contributes to the development of synergies in favour of changes needed to achieve health gains. The defined activities form part of a coherent work plan. Include: the design of the evaluation instrument of the impact of health education program, web communication platform development and creation of an intervention program in the school population of the 3rd cycle of basic education in food, harmful consumption and sexuality.

The plan for disseminating results and disseminating knowledge is in line with broad territorial coverage and corresponds to the fields of health and technology applied to health. The impact of scientific and technological knowledge generated by the project and disseminated will contribute to regional and national recovery, within a knowledge translation logic.
