Science Swing session brings together international researchers and professionals in palliative care

Regarding the 2nd International Congress of Palliative Care, held in Leiria, on october 20 and 21, several researchers and professionals in the field of palliative care gathered to share their experiences as researchers in this area, in the past Science Swing session that took place in the Health Innovation Hub on October 19.

The session was led by Bella VivatCristina CosteiraCatarina Faria and Catarina Abreu, and the main goal was to promote the sharing of scientific knowledge and high-quality projects through their presentations.   

Cristina Costeira, PhD, ciTechCare researcher and lecturer at ESSLEI – School of Health Sciences talked about ‘Skills in Spiritual Care’, highlighting the competences needed in clinical practice. Catarina Faria, Director of the Palliative Care Service at the Leiria Hospital Center and PhD student in bioethics focused her presentation on the process of death. Also Catarina Abreu, nurse and MSc student in palliative care, joined this conversation between experts to share her research work and professional view by talking about the palliative care patient profile, describing the most prevalent symptoms on admission of patients to a palliative care unit. 

The international invited researcher of this session was Bella Vivat, PhD, Principal Investigator in the Marie Curie Department of Palliative Care Research at the University College London, who addressed her research work in spiritual care in palliative care, over the past few years.
