On July 19, Catarina Marques and Katie Phair were the invited speakers of the Science Swing session dedicated to raising awareness and preventing antimicrobial resistance.
‘Prevention is Better than cure? A contribution of infection prevention and control’ was the theme presented by Catarina Marques, PhD fellow at ciTechCare in Occupational Safety and Health, focusing on measures to prevent pathogens with multidrug resistance spread in long-term care units.
On the other hand, Katie Phair, PhD student at the South East Technological University, in Ireland, attending during 2 month the Erasmus programme at ciTechCare, brought to the audience the topic ‘Safe food Saves Lives – Cronobacter sakazakii and the potential of antimicrobial lipids’, based on her doctoral thesis project, dedicated to this important pathogen, prevalent in the food industry, in particular in formula milk for infants, a major industry in her country.
This science swing session gathered several researchers interested in this area and fostered the sharing of scientific knowledge.
