Mixed meal tolerance test as a screening methods for gestational diabetes: a narrative review

Caroline Pragosa, graduated in Dietetics and Nutrition by the School of Health Sciences of the Polytechnic of Leiria, co-authored with Marlene Lages, Cidália Pereira and Maria Guarino, researchers at ciTechCare, published the article “Mixed meal tolerance test as a screening method for gestational diabetes: a narrative review” in the Acta Portuguesa de Nutrição.
The Oral Glucose Tolerance Test is the gold standard method for the diagnosis of diabetes, however, the use of a standard mixed meal may better represent the actual postprandial metabolic responses. In this article the authors compared the standard mixed meals that have already been tested as an alternative to the classic test, this being a starting point for the development of further research in this area.
