SafeTrack closing session gathers researchers and healthcare professionals at Leiria Hospital Center

The closing session of the SafeTrack Project happened, on June 29, in the auditorium of Leiria Hospital Center. The project started in 2021 and aimed to engage healthcare professionals and patients representatives in the development of a new monitoring system of patients in the context of the Hospital Emergency Service (HES), in order to support healthcare professionals in the early detection of clinical deterioration of several occurrences.

Maria Guarino, ciTechCare Director and Sandra Neves, researcher at ciTechCare and Vice-Director of LIDA (Laboratory of Research in Design and Arts) are part of the research team and presented the results of this Innovative project, whose first version of the prototype resulted in a system that integrates a non-invasive wireless device and a graphical interface for information visualization.

The SafeTrack project has as partners WiseWare, DreamPlas, EPJMédica, Leiria Hospital Center and the Polytechnic of Leiria, in the figure of LIDA and ciTechCare, and was funded by the FEDER – Fundo Europeu de Desenvolvimento Regional.

Also, the Research Center of Leiria Hospital Center (LHC) organized, on that day, the 2nd conference integrated in the conference cycle of 2023. The guest speaker of this session was Sandra Neves, who shared some projects in which she has been working on as a design researcher by presenting the theme Participatory codesign: a research approach to explore healthcare interventions.

The cycle of conference, that will be on going this year of 2023, intends to promote the sharing of scientific experiences in the HCL and spread knowledge of prestigious figures on the scientific research field in Portugal.

Sandra Neves holds a PhD in health design from the Glasgow School of Art and has focused her research work on the quality of life in such sensitive areas as stroke rehabilitation or mental healthcare, using a participatory codesign process, involving patients and caregivers to promote individual and collective well-being.

Maria Guarino, Director of ciTechCare and João Morais, Coordinator of the LHC Research Center were part of the discussion painel in a session that brought together several healthcare professionals.
