Seminar on Active Pregnancy brings together specialists in physical activity, women’s health and nutrition
On September 23, at 9:30 am, the Auditorium of the School of Health Sciences of the Polytechnic of Leiria hosted a scientific session on “Promoting Healthy Lifestyles During Pregnancy”. Several researchers from the Polytechnic of Leiria, Polytechnic of Santarém and Gdansk Sport University and professionals from nutrition, women’s health, and exercise physiology joined to address and discuss key aspects related to the adoption and maintenance of healthy lifestyles throughout pregnancy. On 18th September 2025, ciTechCare hosted a Campus 5 O’Clock Talk, an ciTechCare initiative that aims to foster the dissemination of scientific knowledge and innovation in healthcare. Sónia Santos participates in the RUN Discovery Student Academy Programme, in Austria
Doctoral fellow in Biomedical Sciences with a focus on heart failure, Sónia Santos participated in the Offline Week of the RUN Discovery Student Academy, an international mentoring programme coordinated by the Vorarlberg University of Applied Sciences (FHV). The programme, which runs from 8 April to 16 December, brought together final-year undergraduate students, master’s students, and early-stage PhD researchers in Dornbirn, Austria, from 15 to 19 September. The RUN Discovery Student Academy is designed to support both academic and personal development through a structured set of online sessions and individual mentoring over a six-month period. FCT awards 3 funded PhD scholarships to ciTechCare
Flávio Costa, Rita Novo and Sara Pimenta are the most recent PhD research fellows at ciTechCare. The three applications submitted for the award of doctoral research fellowships were approved and will be funded by the Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT) over the 4 coming years, enabling the fellows to undertake their research activities leading to the academic degree of Doctor. Rafael Pinheiro, researcher at ciTechCare, took part in the thematic week “Learning and Playing,” promoted by the National ERASMUS+ Education and Training Agency, as part of the “Study & Research in Portugal” initiative, held at EXPO 2025 Osaka, Japan, from July 23 to 25. Through a video presented at EXPO 2025 Osaka, the researcher spoke about the work developed at ciTechCare, initially through a postdoctoral fellowship in the field of artificial intelligence applied to health, and afterwards about what he has been able to achieve professionally through his ongoing three-year contract. 15th Challenges in Cardiology highlights advances and current perspectives in Heart Failure
Sónia Santos, a doctoral fellow at ciTechCare conducting research in the field of heart failure, participated in the 15th edition of the “Challenges in Cardiology” congress, held on June 27, 2025, at Hotel Villa Batalha in Leiria. Her participation was made possible through the awarding of one of the ten grants allocated to “Students in the Health Sciences.” This scientific event, organized by Professor João Morais—former Director of the Cardiology Department at the Local Health Unit of the Leiria Region and researcher at ciTechCare—brought together several nationally recognized experts in the cardiovascular field. The congress promoted in-depth discussions on current
